How We Help

Youth Council Work Groups Are In the Community
The Funding and Oversight Committee develops ways to best use Youth Council's funds by studying existing programs.

The Marketing and Public Information Committee is in the neighborhoods, building the capacity of community-based groups.

Legislative Outreach & Advocacy
Youth Council members provide advocacy and leadership to serve youth and young adults throughout the region. They work with legislators to leverage resources and funding and create meaningful policy in state government.

Life-long Career Development
The Youth Council helps individuals achieve self-sufficiency and take advantage of quality jobs, with the understanding that career development requires a commitment to lifelong learning. Our members work with employers to address social and emotional problems of youth that can become a business problem.

Youth Training Opportunities
With the guidance of the Youth Council and its various sub-committees, the Workforce Alliance focuses the resources of a comprehensive workforce development system on youth issues. Through our Youth Council we have established a network of related organizations to coordinate the entire range of youth activities.

Comprehensive Services include:
Improving educational achievement
Preparing for and succeeding in employment
Supporting youth
Developing the potential of youth as citizens and leaders

Youth Programs for in- and out-of-school youth ages 14 - 21 are offered in the following areas:
GED Preparation
Basic Skills Training
Classroom Training
Job Placement Assistance
Life Skills
Academic Remediation
Youth@Work, Summer 2006

Youth Council InfoXchange
The Youth Council's InfoXchange is a major networking and skills-sharing event that draws dozens of youth service providers to increase collaboration on grants and projects. The InfoXchange is also an excellent way to overcome the silo effect of agencies operating on their own without regard to the bigger picture.
