The Youth Council Mission

"The Youth Council provides proactive leadership and advocacy for integrated quality education, training and employment experiences for, by and with youth."

The Youth Council – Who We Are
The Workforce Alliance Youth Council is a network of members representing youth service organizations and agencies in South Central CT. In addition, the Youth Council includes high school members who bring fresh vision and bright young minds to the development of youth employment and training policies. The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) created Youth Councils as part of each local Workforce Investment Board (Workforce Alliance).

As a standing committee of the Board of Directors, The Youth Council:
• identifies priority needs and services for area youth
• coordinates a collaborative network of resources for youth service providers
• recommends funding for various programs

Youth Council members strive to improve the efficiency and quality of youth services. We address the needs of in-school, as well as out-of-school youth.

The Youth Council networks with other youth service organizations, to better understand how young people can be successful in the labor market. In addition to young people, the Youth Council membership includes representatives from education, the Job Corps, school-to-career, juvenile justice, business, community-based organizations, and other youth service providers.
